What is a flexi disc?

A flexi disc, also known as a phonosheet or Soundsheet, is a type of phonograph record made of a thin, flexible vinyl material. They were commonly used as promotional items or supplements to magazines, newspapers, and other publications.

Flexi discs are much thinner and lighter than traditional vinyl records, and are often square or rectangular in shape. They could be played on a regular turntable, but usually required a special insert or adapter to prevent damage to the stylus.

Flexi discs were popular in the 1960s and 1970s as a cost-effective way for bands and labels to distribute music to a wide audience. They were often included in magazines as a bonus for readers, offering exclusive content or interviews with artists.

While flexi discs are not as common today, they are still occasionally used for promotional purposes or as novelty items for collectors. Their flexible nature makes them easy to mail and distribute, making them a unique and interesting format for music and audio recordings.
